An Easy Spring Capsule for the Elevated Casual Office — for Sizes XXS-3X
Showing the full capsule in action — here are a few of the ways I’ve been mixing and matching these pieces!
If your spring work wardrobe could use a reset, this capsule wardrobe plan is a strong place to start. Built around breathable natural fibres and a layering-friendly mindset (optimized for maximum mixing and matching), it’s designed for a modern, elevated casual office or WFH setting. The natural fibres also help regulate your temperature, ideal for those in-between spring days that can swing from cool to warm and back again.
I consider this a “micro capsule wardrobe.” It’s tiny, but it packs a punch. This allows you to start with a strong foundation you can build on over time, and makes it easier to invest in fewer high-quality pieces that do more.
For this capsule wardrobe plan, all clothing pieces are from EILEEN FISHER — a brand I regularly recommend to clients for their thoughtful design, size range (XXS-3X as well as petites) and sustainability focus. For footwear, I’ve opted for Poppy Barley, a Canadian brand known for ethically made, comfortable yet chic and contemporary shoes. I especially appreciate their extended sizing and wide width options, which are a must for my feet. PS: If you’re looking for a Poppy Barley discount, use HEENSIE-25 for $25 off regular priced orders $200+ now through July 31/25!
I'm wearing a 3X in all pieces shown here. I’ve found that EILEEN FISHER’s 2X and 3X tend to work very well on my plus size US 22/24 body, depending on the style. The shapes I’ve chosen are relaxed but intentional, the palette is neutral and easy to mix, and every item was chosen with real-life wearability in mind.

A quick note: This post wasn’t sponsored and none of the brands featured asked me to write it, but the items listed here were gifted to me as a fashion professional and content creator. This doesn’t affect my recommendations — I only share pieces I genuinely wear and stand behind — but it does help me continue offering free resources like this one!
The Pieces
Here’s what made it into this season’s micro capsule! I’ve included a mix of relaxed and more structured elements, all in breathable natural fibres that help regulate temperature throughout the day, which is a must during spring's unpredictable weather.
A look at the full capsule. Screenshot this photo as a visual shopping to-do list (whether you’re shopping new or assembling this capsule from your current closet!)
1. Organic Linen Cotton V-Neck Top in Black (I wore a 3X and will continue to mention my size after each link below!)
A simple black knit with a lightweight feel and easy drape. The V-neck is open but not too low, which makes it a great base for layering under button-ups or pairing with a high-waisted pant or skirt. I love how the hem falls just right — not too cropped, not too long — making it easy to half-tuck or wear loose. This piece brings a bit of structure to soft bottoms while staying breezy and unfussy. It has a sweater-like vibe, but is cool and breathable enough for spring weather.
2. Organic Linen Cotton Square Top in Undyed Natural (3X)
This one is a capsule wardrobe MVP. The soft texture and drape give it a relaxed feel, but the clean neckline and minimalist shape keep it looking contemporary. It’s slightly boxy, which I find gives it just enough room without overwhelming the body. I especially love this piece with the black trouser or the matching skirt for a soft tonal moment.
3. Organic Linen Classic Collar Shirtdress in White (3X)
This is a dream one-and-done piece. Worn on its own, it reads crisp and easy—perfect for warm spring days when you still want to look put together. You can also layer it open like a duster or play with length by wearing it as a longline top over trousers or skirts (when I posted this styling on social media, it was a huge hit! People LOVED this creative take on a shirtdress).
4. Organic Linen Bias Skirt in Undyed Natural (3X)
Soft, flowy and versatile. The bias cut skims the body without clinging, which I always appreciate. This skirt pairs beautifully with both the square top and the v-neck, but I also love it with the shirtdress layered over top. The natural shade is grounding, but doesn’t read as too overly earthy (in a boho/rustic kind of way). It’s actually very chic, polished and clean.
5. Puckered Organic Linen Stripe Classic Collar Shirt in Chalk (3X)
A beautiful layering piece with subtle texture that adds just enough visual interest. The stripe is soft and tonal, so it still acts like a neutral. The subtle pattern and texture makes it one of those shirts that instantly makes an outfit feel thoughtful, even if you’re just wearing basics.
6. Organic Linen Wide-Leg Trouser Pant in Black and Undyed Natural (3X)
This is a true staple. The cut is structured but roomy, and the fabric has enough weight to hang well without feeling stiff. I wear these with just about everything in this capsule — they’re as easy to pair with a relaxed knit as they are with the striped button-up or the square top. A neutral trouser with a wide leg is always a solid investment, and this one manages to look sharp while staying breathable and comfy. I have a lot of sensory considerations when it comes to clothing, but I’ve consistently found EILEEN FISHER’s linen to be incredibly wearable. It never feels scratchy or irritating on my skin, even on the first wear. The textures are soft, breathable, and genuinely easy to live in. I find these trousers so versatile in my closet, that I’ve included them in both a light and dark neutral shade.
7. Italian Leather Belt Bag
I love how size inclusive this piece is. The strap adjusts easily and fits very comfortably on my waist. The sleek design adds a polished element to casual outfits, and it’s the kind of accessory that makes even a simple top-and-pants combo feel styled. In my opinion, it adds a bit of an edge. I’ve worn it at the waist, as a crossbody, as a clutch and on my shoulder—depending on the outfit. It’s super versatile.
8. The Modern-Day Mary Jane Flats (Wide Width)
While EILEEN FISHER offers some beautiful footwear options, I have tricky feet. Mine are wide, and I need shoes that are specifically designed for wide widths. These Modern-Day Mary Janes from Poppy Barley strike the perfect balance between comfort and polish. They feel supportive enough for long days, and the design adds just the right amount of structure to every outfit in this capsule. I wear them on repeat, and am frankly obsessed with their super buttery soft leather. Outfit formulas to Experiment With
Part of what makes a capsule wardrobe fun is how much room there is to play. Below are 20 outfit structures using pieces from this capsule. Here you’ll find layering ideas and versatile ways to rework even the simplest item. Try them at home, test how they feel on your body, and adjust the styling to fit your mood, setting, or the weather that day. Let your outfit shift with you! You can also see visual examples of these outfit formulas here on my TikTok and Instagram. The belt bag and flats are a given for all of these formulas. How I Build a Capsule Wardrobe
There’s no one perfect formula, but here’s what I consider when building a seasonal capsule like this:
A neutral base. Choosing neutral pieces makes it easier to mix and match. You can always bring in colour through accessories and a statement piece or two. If your wardrobe is more colourful or maximalist, this might not be the most practical option for you, and you will likely want to mix and match with your most cohesive core colours.
Shapes that balance ease and structure. I include a mix of relaxed fits and slightly more polished silhouettes, so the capsule can flex across different moods and dress codes.
Layering potential. Each piece should work in at least two types of weather: on its own and with a layer. This is key for spring dressing.
Consistency in palette and proportion. Everything should feel like it belongs together — without feeling too matchy.
Breathability is key. Natural fibres like linen and cotton help regulate temperature, move with your body, and don’t feel restrictive. This is especially important during transitional weather.
Mapping out how mix-and-matchable everything is. I’ll gather images of the pieces I’m considering and double check that each one pairs well with the others. I’ll lay it all out in Canva first so I can visually chart the combinations before making any purchases.
You don’t need to choose the exact colours or cuts I’ve featured here. You might prefer a different silhouette, or your work setting might call for something a little more structured or relaxed. Either way, I hope this capsule can be a helpful framework if you’re looking to streamline your closet and get more ease out of your daily style.
